Welcome to our blog for Dublin’s bid to host the 87th World Science Fiction Convention in 2029 !
The City of Dublin hosted the 77th WorldCon in 2019 and by all accounts it was a wonderful experience for the 6,500+ people who attended in person. So, why not do it all over again !? Over a hundred people have come together in the last year or two to make this a reality and this blog will keep you up to date with their efforts. We will also be talking to you about Dublin City itself and its environs, science fiction and fantasy in Dublin and Ireland and of course we’ll be talking you about where they come together. We want to bring SFF to Dublin and bring Dublin to SFF again ! Our un-subtle agenda is to persuade you to come here; the opening phrase of this blog, ‘Tá fáilte romhat go léir !’, is the Irish Gaelic equivalent of ‘you are all welcome’.
Our blog posts will come from as wide a variety of people as you will ever meet. You will hear from those born, bred and buttered here in Dublin, those who have come to live here decades ago or last month and even those who have never been here. You will hear from readers of science fiction and fantasy, writers, gamers, knitters, musicians, brewers, distillers, historians and scientists. We will regale you with stories about Dublin, its past, present and hopefully its future. Some of these stories might even be true, some will be outright lies, but all will be told to give you a sense of the city you are visiting and what it might be like to come here and join us for a festival of the fantastic.
