Why this role is exciting
If you love catching typos, smoothing out awkward sentences, and making sure information is crystal clear, this role puts you right at the heart of how Dublin 2029 communicates with its members and the world. You’ll help shape the online voice of the convention and make sure fans get accurate, polished information.
What you’ll actually do
You’ll proofread content for the convention website—everything from announcements and policy pages to guest bios and updates from different divisions. Most of your work will involve checking for clarity, consistency, grammar, and tone, and making sure information is correct and easy to understand. You’ll collaborate with the Web Team, Communications division, and other divisions that submit content, and you’ll often be the last set of eyes before something goes live. You won’t be writing the content yourself, but you’ll be the person who makes sure it reads well and doesn’t confuse anyone.
Skills and experience
You don’t need formal editing credentials, but you should be comfortable reading carefully and spotting errors. A good sense of clear, friendly writing is helpful, and you should be able to give feedback in a supportive, constructive way. Familiarity with basic editing tools like Google Docs or Word is useful, and we can show you how to work with our web publishing system. What matters most is reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to ask questions when something doesn’t look right.
The work involved in the role
This is an online-only role, and you can do it from anywhere. Most of the work is asynchronous—you’ll receive drafts or text snippets to review, and you’ll send back corrections or suggestions. It’s not public-facing in the sense of interacting with attendees, but your work will be very visible once it’s published. There’s no physical labor involved, and no at-con travel required unless you want to help with live updates during the event.
Time commitment
Proofreaders are most active pre‑con, when the website is being updated frequently, likely 8-12 hours per month, possibly more. There may also be some at‑con work if the team posts daily updates or last-minute changes. Post‑con work is minimal—usually just helping tidy up or archive content.

What you’ll get out of it
You’ll sharpen your editing and proofreading skills, learn how large fan-run events manage their online presence, and work with a friendly team of volunteers from around the world. You’ll also get the satisfaction of knowing that thousands of attendees are reading content you helped polish.
