Why this role is exciting

If you enjoy helping people get the information they need, keeping communication organised, and making sure nothing gets lost in the shuffle, this role puts you right at the heart of how Worldcon interacts with its online community. You’ll help ensure that questions, concerns, and requests sent via email are handled quickly, kindly, and efficiently.

What you’ll actually do

You’ll manage the inbox dedicated to social media‑related emails—messages from fans, creators, potential partners, and anyone who reaches out because of something they saw on our social platforms. Your job is to read incoming emails, reply when appropriate, and forward or escalate messages to the right members of the Communications team. You’ll help keep track of recurring questions, flag issues that need attention, and make sure responses stay consistent with the convention’s tone and policies. You’ll also coordinate with Social Media Platform Managers and Community Managers so that email and social messaging stay aligned.

Skills and experience

You don’t need professional communications experience, but you should be comfortable writing clear, friendly emails and responding thoughtfully to a wide range of questions. Good judgement, reliability, and a calm approach to busy inboxes are essential. If you enjoy organising information, helping people feel heard, and keeping digital communication tidy, you’ll thrive in this role. Experience with shared inboxes or customer‑service style communication is helpful but not required.

The work involved in the role

This is an online‑only role, and you can do it from anywhere. Most of your time will be spent checking the inbox, replying to messages, and forwarding emails to the appropriate team members. It’s not physically demanding, but it is public‑facing—you’ll be interacting directly with fans and community members. You’ll work closely with the Communications team to ensure responses are timely and consistent.

Time commitment

Expect a few hours a week during quieter periods, increasing when major announcements go out or when community activity spikes. At‑con, the pace may increase depending on how active the inbox is. Most communication is asynchronous, though occasional team check‑ins may be scheduled.

What you’ll get out of it

You’ll gain experience in digital communication, inbox management, and cross‑team coordination. You’ll help shape the public face of the convention, work with a friendly team, and make sure fans feel supported and heard. It’s a rewarding way to contribute to Dublin 2029 without needing to be onsite.
