Why this role is exciting
You’ll be the person who turns ambitious fan-driven ideas into reality—whether that’s a small program item or a major convention feature enjoyed by thousands. This is a chance to shape how the world’s largest science fiction convention actually happens.
What you’ll actually do
You’ll manage one or more convention projects from planning through execution. Depending on the assignment, this may include coordinating with division heads, recruiting and guiding team members, tracking timelines and deliverables, and ensuring your project stays aligned with Dublin 2029 standards and deadlines.
You’ll have access to collaboration tools (shared drives, project management software, communication platforms), documentation from past conventions, and support from your Division Head or Lead. Some projects will have dedicated staff; others may be solo.
Skills and experience
Strong organizational skills and comfort managing tasks, timelines, and communication. Ability to work collaboratively in an online environment. Reliability—projects must hit deadlines. Prior project management experience, professional or volunteer. Familiarity with project management tools. Experience working in fan conventions or volunteer-run events is helpful. Comfort coordinating across multiple teams. Ability to manage a project as lead person. Liaise with other groups as needed, use project management software, lead a small team on a designated project, effectively record and communicate outcomes, implement projects as needed, provide follow up feedback, support team staff, provide staff with clear goals, feedback and encouragement.
The work involved in the role
This role can vary widely depending on the project. Key work may include: Primarily online coordination, with optional at-con involvement depending on the project. Some roles are public-facing; others are entirely behind-the-scenes. May involve managing deadlines, documentation, and cross-team communication.
Time commitment
Small projects: ~2–4 hours per week, with occasional peaks near deadlines.
Large projects: ~5–10 hours per week, increasing to 10–15 hours during the final 6–8 weeks before the convention.
Meetings: Typically biweekly or monthly, online, scheduled across multiple time zones.
Most work is asynchronous, but some real-time coordination may be needed close to major milestones.
